St. Andrew Lutheran Church came to be through the efforts of many area Lutheran pastors and lay people. On January 23, 1983 six potential members and three Lutheran pastors met. With this we began a Lutheran Missouri Synod (LCMS) Mission Church. The first service was held February 27, 1983 at the 7th Day Adventist Church with 40 people in attendance, Pastor Pfluegar officiating this momentous occasion. After this facility was no longer available for their use, we met in the Masonic Temple in Portland.
September 1983 through July 1988 St. Andrew was served by Lay Ministers Fred & Val Dicks along with Pastor Burhop. In July 1988 Vicar Ed Filter became ordained and accepted the call to St. Andrew as our acting Pastor.
The dedication to the first building was January 18th, 1986. There were two additional expansions: 1989 and 1997. Our last expasnion added a large sanctuary, classrooms, a conference room and dedicated preschool room. Between the 2nd and 3rd expansion St. Andrew added a WEE GROW Christian Preschool in 1992. The first year we had seven students. We quickly grew to our current size. WEE GROW students range from 3 to 4 year children.
